Resort App King. When it comes to resort apps, there are a ton with trail maps and weather reports, but most are only moderately useful. Dan and Ingrid Miller, founders of Resorts Tapped, aim to change that, by providing resort-specific (iPhone) apps that are focused on the functionality you actually need at the mountain. Each app is specifically tailored to each resort, allowing the user to navigate the mountain and après scene better than before. As the Jackson Hole, Smuggler's Notch and Mammoth apps get ready to drop for this season, we decided to check in with the Millers to see what makes their apps so special. Read more…

Signalling the end of the soggy trail map (we hope) is a new iPhone application that has been developed for the Jackson Hole Mountain Resort in Grand Teton National Park, Wyoming. The idea at least sounds terrific, but how good it turns out to be will become clear after this northern ski season. The tailored app uses the iPhone's built-in GPS to locate users as they ski the mountain's runs and displays their position on the resort's trail map. It can also display the direction users are facing and the route they are traveling. The idea for the app, called JH Tapped, came from Dan and Ingrid Miller, employees at the resort.JH Tapped can record the number of runs and the number of vertical feet travelled by the user, show current weather and snow conditions, views of the resort via webcam, and lift status information in real time. JH Tapped 2010 will be available to download from November 2009. See www.resortstapped.com. Keep your fingers crossed that it's as goods it sounds and will soon become available at other resorts.

Jackson Hole Weekly, 6 October 2009

Who hasn’t been enjoying a bluebird day at a mammoth resort like JHMR and lost their skiing companion? Assuming it wasn’t on purpose, it is virtually impossible to hook up again unless you had a pre-designated plan to suck down a few beers at lunch.

Now comes word that two Jackson locals have developed an exclusive application for the iPhone that will allow users to track their exact location on the ‘hill.’ Working with JHMR’s trail map and utilizing the iPhone’s built-in GPS technology, the new app can pinpoint the user’s location, give up-to-the-minute snow conditions and lift reports, and even record runs made and vertical feet travelled.

JH Tapped was conceived and developed by Dan and Ingrid Miller, two resort employees. A free preview version will be available at the iPhone Application Store. The complete version — JH Tapped 2010 — will be available in early November.

iPhones came in pretty handy after last winter’s avalanches, allowing skiers to check news updates and lift status while still riding the START bus to the resort.

Now a couple of resort employees, Dan and Ingrid Miller, have developed an iPhone application specifically for Jackson Hole Mountain Resort.

Their JH Tapped allows users to locate themselves and their friends on the resort’s trail map, keep track of vertical feet skied or snowboarded, and get real-time updates on lift status, snow conditions and weather. The app also has a resort directory with phone numbers and information on lessons, statistics and history.

The app is free for now; a forthcoming enhanced version will offer features such as a compass and Facebook interface, and presumably cost a few bucks.

Teton Village, WY - Jackson Hole Mountain Resort and Resorts Tapped LLC are pleased to announce the launch of JH Tapped, a GPS iPhone application developed exclusively for Jackson Hole Mountain Resort. JH Tapped uses the iPhone’s built-in GPS to locate the user and their friends on the official Jackson Hole trail map and log the user’s runs and vertical feet travelled. This unique app allows users to pinpoint their location on the actual Jackson Hole trail map, not a hard-to-read topographical or satellite map. JH Tapped is the first app tailored to an individual resort, making it a must have tool for any visitor looking to maximize the Jackson Hole experience.

JH Tapped also provides current weather and snow conditions, resort webcam views, and real-time lift status information, as well as a built-in directory for Teton Village services and amenities.

JH Tapped was conceived and developed by Dan and Ingrid Miller, Jackson Hole locals and resort employees. “We have taken full advantage of the iPhone’s capabilities,” said Dan Miller, “and I think people will be impressed by the app’s features.” JH Tapped will be an indispensable guide to Jackson Hole this winter for both first time visitors and seasoned locals.

A free preview version is now available on the iPhone App Store. The 2009-2010 complete version; JH Tapped 2010, will be available in early November and will offer even more features including: an interface for uploading logs to Facebook and enhanced location capabilities that use the iPhone’s built-in compass to display the direction the user is facing or travelling.
